AEPEA goes International

During 2022, members of our network participated in international seminars organized by the German Academic Exchange Service - DAAD for Alumni. The programs of these meetings offer invitations to alumni from all over the world with the aim of preserving the link between the institutions that educated them in Germany, but also with colleagues from all over the world who, by sharing their experiences, enrich the results of each event.

In the last week of October three members of AEPEA, Pamela Sangoluisa, José Jara, and Vinicio Villalba, participated in the Circular Economy Seminar at the 13th International Circular Economy Conference and Week. The event took place in Birkenfeld in the Rheinland Pfalz region, Germany. The participation of our experts was sponsored by the DAAD project "SDG Alumni: Knowledge and practice for development".

In addition, Consuelo Velasco, Vice President of AEPEA, participated from November 15 - 22, 2022 in the Seminar: "The future of Education-overcoming inequality through innovation". This seminar organized by DAAD was held in Potsdam, Germany, and was aimed at training for the implementation and development of digital transformation and education projects to achieve social justice.

Congratulations to AEPEA members for their international participation.

First Science Slam

08/19/2022

The Science Slam is an academic space for professionals of the Alumni network to share in an informal and relaxed format the progress of their scientific research. We invite professionals and students interested in the topics to be discussed at each meeting. The topics are varied due to the diversity of research areas that are developed among AEPEA members.

For the first edition, we were pleased to share with the following guests:
Dr. Laura Salazar Cotugno, researcher and lecturer at Universidad Tecnológica Indoamérica, shared with us some results of her research on tropical ferns and their responses to climate change.
Dr. Daisy Cárate Tandalla from the Institute of Environmental Sciences iES of the Uni Koblenz-Landau, Germany talked about the results of her studies in montane tropical ecosystems about the responses of natural forest regeneration to the secondary effects of climate change, the deposition of nutrients in soils. And,  Dr. Mayken Espinosa Andaluz from the Escuela Politécnica del Litoral shared the results of his studies on hydrogen technology applied to transportation and the research he is conducting in his group in the search for clean alternative energies.
The event was held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 19h00. The topics presented encouraged dialogue among the participants who were part of a pleasant virtual conversation full of scientific curiosities and interesting questions related to the topics of the speakers. At the end of the session, we were satisfied to know the quality of the researchers and the contributions that are already being developed in the country.

We look forward to your participation in the next AEPEA Science Slam.

Second Meeting of Ecuadorian Women Scientists with studies in Germany

02/06/2022

The GIZ Migration and Diaspora Program (PMD) continuing its efforts to contribute to the careers of experts returning to Ecuador organized the Second Meeting of Women Scientists with studies in Germany.  The event was attended by Daisy Cárate Tandalla, Verónica Morales, Katherine Bolaños and Nathalie Suarez representing AEPEA.

The program stood out for being a hybrid event, in which other people were able to share with the attendees telematically.  It highlighted the presentations of four women scientists who communicated the results of their professional studies in different areas. Isabel Kilian shared her experience in working with Insects, DNA and Barcoding; Karolina Endara about music as a principle of inclusion: comparison between Ecuador and Germany; Daisy Cárate spoke about the consequences of climate change on the regeneration of montane forests in southern Ecuador; and Salome Parra spoke about evaluation and optimization methods in water management, challenges and opportunities for the future.

The importance of women's professional networks and the need for professional collaboration among Ecuadorian women were also discussed.

An great opportunity to create bonds of collaboration and help among women.

The AEPEA attended the First Meeting of Ecuadorian Scientific Women with studies in Germany

17/07/2021 .

Women's professional networks are becoming more extensive around the world. The Migration and Diaspora Program (PDM) of the Center for International Migration and Development (CIM) in its eagerness to contribute to the career of experts who return to Ecuador, organized the first meeting of women scientists with studies in Germany. Members of the AEPEA participated in this event. We were represented by young scientists: Cristina Romero, Daisy Cárate, Verónica Morales, and Daniela Céleri. During the event, participants highlighted the role of women as change agents in the scientific community. Additionally, authorities at the event called the necessity to establish collaborative ties between professional women in the country.

Due to restrictions related to the pandemic, the meeting was restricted to a few participants. However, the initiative already received very good reviews in other regions where the CIM has similar programs. This type of meeting was replicated in other countries following the Ecuadorian initiative, so this will not be the first opportunity for women in science to meet and work together. Together we work better!
